Selecting Accessories and Mounting Moving Heads Safely
Whether you are using an LED moving head, spot or beam fixture, the manufacturer and complete model designation of your fixture should be the starting point when selecting accessories. Mounting points and installation requirements can vary even between fixtures from the same brand. This applies to accessories for EUROLITE as well as accessories for FUTURELIGHT.
An omega bracket, also referred to as an omega holder, serves as a connection point when mounting the fixture. For suspended installation, the fixture mounting point, bracket, clamp and required secondary safety device must all be suitable for the specific application. The documented load capacity and designated mounting points are what matter, not simply the material or outward similarity of the components. Installation should be carried out by qualified personnel and in accordance with the fixture's operating instructions.
If the fixture is placed on a moving head stand, the most important considerations are the height, footprint, mounting surface and permitted load of the stage stand. Because moving heads create dynamic loads, it is also important for the stand to have a sufficiently heavy base plate.
When ordering new moving lights, always compare the included components with the equipment you already have. This allows you to add any missing items as needed and ensures that you are fully equipped for your new setup.
With gobos, on the other hand, lighting design takes center stage. In addition to the desired pattern and optical effect, it is important to check whether your fixture supports interchangeable gobos and which versions are suitable for it.
Planning DMX Control and Cabling
For a DMX-controlled light show, the controller and fixtures need to work together. When planning your setup, consider the DMX mode and required number of channels as well as the connectors on your moving lights. Different connector types may require adapters, and the correct pin configuration must also be taken into account.
In a daisy-chained DMX setup, the data cable runs from the controller to the first fixture and then from the output of each fixture to the input of the next. A DMX terminator should also be installed at the end of the DMX chain. Required cable lengths depend on the actual cable routes, while the power supply should be planned separately.
Protection and Transport for Changing Locations
For transport, consider the dimensions of the fixture, the size of the transport solution and the space required for any accessories carried with it. Clearly assigning each case to a specific moving head makes packing easier and helps you check that everything is complete after an event.
For outdoor use, the specified operating conditions are what matter. Terms such as “rain cover” do not automatically refer to the same design or level of protection. Check whether the rain protection is suitable for the intended application together with the manufacturer's specifications regarding operating conditions, ventilation and the space required for fixture movement. A transport cover is not a substitute for dedicated weather protection during operation. Additional accessories also do not automatically make an indoor fixture suitable for outdoor use.
